Meløy has a connection to the mainland with a ferry and fast boat that leave every day from Ørnes and Vassdalsvik.
The NEX express boat (Nordlandsekspressen) usually goes to Ørnes and Bolga twice a day.
From Bodø:
- Car or bicycle: go to Ørnes ferry dock and take the ferry to Meløysund.
- Express boat: Take the NEX-Express and get off at Bolga, then be chartered by boat to Lille Herstrand (5 min journey time). NB: pick-up must be arranged in advance from an operator in the area.
- Sea-plane: Book a plane with room for 4 passengers and a total weight of 380 kg. Fly straight to Lille Herstrand. Approximate price: NOK 5,500.
- Own boat with 27 knots is 1 hour and 15 minutes from Bodø in nice weather

- Ferry from Vassdalsvik to Meløysund
South-Helgeland
- Bicycle or foot: Take the Nordlandsekspressen to Ørnes, then ferry to Meløysund. Note that it is a short walk to Lille Herstrand from Meløysund. You will be dependent on us arranging a ride.
